Matthew 5: 13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
You Are so Special to God
I always watched how people react when given food without sufficient salt. I remember seeing some of them looking for salt even before they tasted the food. They would call someone to bring salt as food is placed on the table. This shows that there is something special about salt. It changes the taste to make food more palatable. It makes food more appealing.
The same thing applies to the things of the Spirit. The Bible says we are the salt of the earth. That means we make the earth to be more appealing. Without believers, the earth may be so chaotic and unpalatable. Just like salt makes food taste better, we also play a major role in making our world a better place.
The opening scripture introduces another powerful word, which is light. Salt gives food a better taste, while Light makes things visible to us in the natural. Light is also a picture of the truth that makes us free.
When God called Apostle Paul to the ministry. He said these words, I am sending you to the gentiles; to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me (Acts 26:18).’
Light is connected to the power of God, while darkness relates to the power of Satan. As children of light, we have been assigned to shine forth our light. We have been authorized to repel darkness because light repels darkness. Our light overcomes darkness.
You are Empowered
God says you are the light of the world. Even in the natural, we know that light makes a difference. In the absence of light, we can do very little. It’s also possible to fail altogether when there is no light.
Jesus says we need to do the works of the one who sent us because night is coming when nothing can be done. The fact that we know the truth, the Bible says we are the children of light. Our kingdom is called the kingdom of light. Satan does not have a kingdom. He is a prince, but not a king. We live in the realm of light and Satan is in the realm of darkness.
You are Delivered From the Power of Satan
Colossians 1:11-13
11 Being made strong with every kind of power, under the influence of His glorious dominating strength, leading to all kinds of patience and endurance with joy;
12 Giving thanks to the Father, who made us eligible to become an integral part of the saints in light:
13 Who has delivered us from the authority of darkness, and has translated [us] into the kingdom of the Son of his [agape] love( GBMI version )
I like this version of the Bible. It shows us that we have been empowered and delivered from his authority, that is Satan. He does not have authority our us. We are called the children of light. His agents are called children of darkness.
Word of encouragement
Arise, shine;
For your light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,
And deep darkness the people;
But the Lord will arise over you,
And His glory will be seen upon you.
3 The Gentiles shall come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising
Let us arise and shine forth. You are the light from God. Let us take our special place in His kingdom, as we are bearers of His glory. Let us repel the deep darkness covering the earth. Let us shine forth His light where there is gross darkness, covering the people.
You are the salt of the earth, the light of the world. Let the world see your light, and glorify your Father who has appointed you.
This is powerful and thank you for sharing Ntate
Thanks for your feedback Lizzy. I totally appreciate it. I glad that you learned something.
Amen! Loved the analogy of being salt. There is a saying in America that goes “You can bring a horse to water but you can’t make him drink” and it means that you can present something to a person but you can’t get them to want it. Then I heard someone add to that statement “Yes you can, give him some salt.”Even if a person may not seem to want what we offer if we have enough salt in the presentation it may make them thirsty. Your post made me think about that.
Thanks a lot Ayanna for giving feedback. I appreciate it so much. I am glad that it has reminded you of some other principles in life. Your comments are so valuable to me.
